TLCCWA and Track Care: Ensuring Future Access Through Environmental Conservation
The Toyota Land Cruiser Club of Western Australia has forged a strong partnership with Track Care, a dedicated organisation focused on ensuring “access for the future” to Western Australia’s magnificent off-road experiences. This collaboration between TLCCWA and Track Care aligns with the club’s core ethos of preserving the region’s rich history and natural environment, while providing members with unforgettable off-roading adventures
The club is a long time member of Track Care and members have over many years eagerly participated with this well respected group in joint volunteer projects.
TLCCWA and Track Care:
A Partnership for Conservation
Track Care’s numerous initiatives have made a significant impact on the conservation of the region’s diverse landscapes. These projects include the protection and restoration of wetlands, maintenance and preservation of station homesteads, cleanup efforts on tracks, beaches, and sand dunes, as well as the delivery of bikes to children in the Pilbara.
The organisation also lends its support to broader Rangelands initiatives, such as the Canning Stock Route and the Nyangumarta Highway.

Recently, TLCCWA supported TrackCare on their Winnemia Project on the Gascoyne Region in the North West of WA.
Winnemia is part of the Jimba Jimba pastoral lease and is close to the eastern entry point to the Kennedy Ranges National Park and one of the 4WD routes onto the Kennedy Ranges Loop via a crossing of the Gascoyne River nearby. Consequently, despite it being on private property, it was used as an unofficial, unmanaged campsite. Having no focus and a generally ramshackle appearance, parties camped all over an extensive area, lit fires indiscriminately using timbers from the old shearing facilities and took little interest in clearing up after themselves.
TrackCare took on the project of transforming the area into a tidy, well managed camp site with excellent facilities for such a remote location including:
- Transforming the shearers kitchen into a camp kitchen with a magnificent table constructed from recovered timbers, displaying artifacts from it’s former life including WWI vintage building materials, signage and a cast iron stove
- Building new toilet and shower blocks from recovered materials to blend in with the kitchen. Facilities are fully plumbed and drained, using harvested rainwater
- Removal of much of the scrap and corrugated iron lying about the site. The latter was stockpiled at the Jimba Jimba homestead for later sustainable use about the working station
- Tidying up and presenting the layout of the shearing shed and shearers quarters as points of interest to users of the campsite.
The team of 25 people working on the project in April were joined by throngs of campers for the official opening of the managed site on 20 April 2023, the day of the solar eclipse which was viewed at Winnemia at 92% of totality.
TLCCWA are proud of their part in helping to transform Winnemia campsite and it is hoped that a trip to follow the Kennedy Ranges Loop will be arranged soon to inspect all the good works before crossing the Gascoyne River into the National Park.
